Aaron Rodgers Talks New Contract: ‘I’ve Felt Like I’ve Had To Justify Myself Every Year’

AND A-RODG AIN’T HAPPY Via Awful Announcing | 3 days ago The sports world was all over the news out of Massachusetts yesterday regarding Aaron Hernandez. The Patriots TE was finally arrested early in the morning, then he was released by the team less than an hour later. Finally, in the afternoon it was revealed Hernandez would be charged with murder and not merely obstruction of justice as had been previously conjectured. NFL stars… Via FanIQ | 3 days ago We all mess up from time to time, and a slip of the tongue is inevitable when people are speaking on live TV. After a while, it’s just bound to happen. It’s just unfortunate when it happens during a story about a pending murder case, and you accidentally say the name of one of the league’s most popular superstars, instead of the guy who actually is being charged with… Via isportsweb.com | 3 days ago Brett Favre (Photo Credit: AP) Almost five years ago, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time was traded to the New York Jets. The divorce between Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers has been well documented. The Packers had Aaron Rodgers as the future of the franchise and were tired of Favres constant indecision about retirement. In 2007, Favre and the Packers had… Via Purple Jesus Diaries | 3 days ago And I don’t mean a “Killer of Vikings fans hopes and dreams” or anything like that, I mean a real life, shooty-shooty, stabby-stabby (not like THAT kind of stabbing though …

Rodgers is suddenly most experienced Packer

I think it highlights characteristics in your personality that maybe werent so visible when you didnt have as much. So Ive tried to remember that and stay true to who I am as a person and as a teammate. “The guys have been great. Theres jokes every now and then, but Im trying to be the same person in the locker room that I was when I was a backup and working on the scout team. It gives you an extra responsibility that you take care of the people that are important to you and realize that you have an opportunity to make an even bigger difference in your community and in your world. Rodgers isnt worried about having to live up to the contract and he shouldnt. The Packers paid him for future performance but they did so using a strong body of work to make a judgment. You know, Ive felt like Ive had to justify myself every year, so this is nothing different, he said. I wouldnt look at it as a burden. When they drafted me, I wanted to prove I was worthy of being a first-round draft pick. When they named me the starter, I felt like I had to prove that I was worthy of being a starter. When we went 6-10 the first year, I felt like I had to prove that I belonged in this league and we could get to the playoffs.

A statistic Aaron Rodgers never overlooks

6 ranking in the leagues best countdown would be a good spot, but thats not necessarily the case withAaron Rodgers. Some fans are actually pretty upset with the quarterbacks spot on this years countdown, but I think hes right where he should be. According to the countdown, Rodgers is the NFL s third best quarterback. He came in behind Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, which really isnt unfair. Manning transformed the Denver Broncos into the AFCs top-seeded team in one short season, while Brady was again just a few plays away from another Super Bowl. You can argue for Rodgers being ahead of both guys because he did throw more touchdown passes, but in the wins department, Manning and Brady both had better years. I think ultimately thats why Rodgers came in at No. 6 this year the Green Bay Packers just werent ever really a legitimate Super Bowl team. It was no fault of Rodgers, because he played well all season, but the end results just werent there. While thats not necessarily what the top 100 countdown is all about, I think thats a possible reason why the players voted the way they did.

The Woodson-less defense also has some young reinforcements in the wake of the horrific 45-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs. Strengths: Rodgers inflicted most of his damage on opposing defenses last season – 4,295 passing yards, 39 touchdowns to only eight interceptions, league-best 108.0 passer rating – without an injury-riddled Jennings and a sparingly used Driver on the field. “It was me, Jordy and Randall (Cobb),” James Jones said of the guys who gave Rodgers a trusted and productive receiving corps in 2012. Those three playmakers are ready to break out even more in the coming season. “I believe we have three 1,000-yard receivers in this (locker) room,” Jones added. “I believe me, Randall and Jordy, if we all stay healthy, we can all reach over 1,000. It’s exciting.” … All-Pro outside linebacker Clay Matthews is enthused for the season ahead. Not only did Matthews, like Rodgers, cash in with a big contract extension in the offseason, but the fearsome pass rusher (16 sacks in 2012) has some help in getting after the quarterback.
